Last Question

What did you learn from this class?

  1. I learned so much from this class. Obviously we learned extensively about all different philosophical views on subjects such as morality, ethics, reality etc. Through it all though, I feel the most important thing I learned was that most of the time the question is more important than the answer. I think this is monumental to know because everyone has so many questions about life, but nothing really has a definite answer, just differing opinions. Now I know that, if I can't answer something I really think about (in the words of Meatball) "It just doesn't matter!". I loved this class because it helped me ask informed questions and also learn how to argue opinions more philosophically. Thanks for a great class!

  2. I thought this class was very interesting because I enjoy learning about the far distant history and the people involved with the history. Also I thought it was interesting to learn about different types of philosophy and see what one I related to most. This class also brought me closer to my own philosophy, and helped me believe in my beliefs stronger than what they were. As a class we learned many important lessons about different situations. Discussing morals and ethics were enjoyable because not everyone sees the world or actions of people the same. I mostly enjoyed learning a little bit about some famous philosophers and their history, and also the different types of philosophy to see what one I belonged to or the ones i didn't agree with. Over all this class taught me a lot about the questions philosophers ask themselves everyday.

  3. I learned quite a bit from this class. I learned which categories of philosophy I would be put in according to the surveys. This was really interesting and it helped me determine my life philosophy a little more. I now have an idea of what my philosophy is and what is in that category of philosophy. I also learned that questions are better than answers, though I am still not entirely sure this is true, but thats just my philosophy.

  4. Well I can say that this class definately taught me to think about things on many different levels and see many sides of a topic and not just one. It helped me learn that there is a much deeper thought in everything we think, do and say. I also kind of figured how I stand philosophically myself and this makes me think about things in a little bit different perspective. Thanks for the wonderful time in class!

  5. In this class, I learned so much about various philosophies and philosophers. Before I started, I was uncertain about who Plato was and what his ideas meant. Now, I can easily explain Plato’s five character types pertaining to morals and his Divided Line Theory concerning the being and becoming states of epistemology. While having discussions in class and reading the book, I found many thoughts with which I agreed. Whether it was the stoics’ belief in fate or Kant’s view of duty, I found myself accepting their ideas. Although I considered many of these thoughts my own, I definitely came across some beliefs that I completely rejected. Reading some of Nietzsche’s conclusions about master versus slave morality and Berkeley’s thoughts on our perceptions of the universe made me reflect on a few foreign concepts. By pondering these distinct theories and debating their consequences, I discovered my life philosophy, the most valuable part of this class. I found my beliefs and my rejections as well as my strengths and my weaknesses. During this class, I developed the strong foundations of my personal philosophy which will accompany me through the rest of my life.

  6. Everything I learned in this class can be summed up in two words: QUESTION EVERYTHING. Although this seems like a simple concept, before this class I would have never questioned things like "What makes a paper cutter a paper cutter and not an airplane?" or "Do we exist first then give ourselves purpose, or is a purpose given to us to carry out in our existence?" Studying the different philosophers and how they all had different outlooks on life made me think more about the big picture that is to question everything. Although learning about the history of philosophy was interesting, I don't think it is nearly as important as the big picture. In 10 years I probably won't remember any of the philosophers we studied or any of their unique ideas, but I will remember to question every single aspect of life because what is life without searching for answers? And how can one search for answers without first asking the question? Because the question is more important than the answer, it is vital to constantly question everything. This class not only helped me create the foundation for my own personal philosophy about life, money, religion, the environment, etc., but it also gave me the overall philosophy from which these all stem and that is to question everything. Thanks for an awesome class, it has definitely been a fun and learning experience!

  7. I learned to think outside of my own thought process in this class. I found a way to think about life which I hadn't thought of before.Whether one agrees or disagrees with an idea doesn't mean it should be disregarded. I've always loved to listen to people and just soak in what is being said. Now I have a greater understanding of how to listen.I admit, I used to have this horrid idea about philosophy courses. For some reason, I thought that a philosophy class consisted of a professor who told students all about the different philosophies of the world and who then immediately tore down or lauded each philosophy without allowing room for student thought. Thank you for giving me a positive perspective. This philosophy class gave me a reason to think beyond myself and to ask questions for their own sake.

  8. I feel I've learned a little more about myself because of this class. I never used to question anything and I just went with the flow of things. I now have a better grasp of some different philosophies of life as well as philosophers. I have benefited a lot from this class and have learned to speak my thoughts because they truly do have meaning especially in philosophical speaking! QUESTIONS QUESTIONS QUESTIONS!! Great class!

  9. What did I learn from this class? I learned that i am a crazy hedonistic, atheistic, existentialist, and i hold similar views to all the philosophers that Dr. Crozier said were pretty much nuts! So i guess i am just nuts.

Oh and i learned all the history of a bunch of different philosophers and their beliefs and some other junk about the reformation :)

  10. Well I learned that philosophy is trying to find knowlege and answers. Also it is trying to understand different things from questions and trying to get to a conclusion. Now that i have went through philosophy i think more philosophical. Like when in a different class and people are talking about something i can compare it to some question relating philosophy. It also made me think deeper into ideas, but i thought it was a very intersting class and lots of fun! You should continue to teach this class

  11. I learned how crazy and psycho some of these famous Philosophers are! I learned how to look at a cetain point many different ways! But I think I mostly learned about myself. I leaned that I think like a feminist and have feminist views! I learned that no matter what I am thinking and no matter how weird it sounds to me I will never sound as crazy as some of these Philosophers! I enjoyed this class very much! I Think i benifited in many ways from this class! =)

  13. I learned a lot. Like to ask more questions becasue they will lead to many other questions. I find I now think a little differently when I look at ideas or objects. I think more deeply than i used to. Like now I wouldn't just say a paper cutter is just a paper cutter I would go more in deph why i believe this. I also learned a lot about the four differnt belief. I didn't know what any of them, except a bit about buddism, before this class. I also like the lemon excercise we did that also helped me learn about not judging so quickly.

  14. Hmmm....I learned more about my own philosophical views, and learned how they may change due to my own personal experiences and past challenges. This class also taught me that not having answers to important questions is ok, the main importance is thinking about these questions and giving my opinion, and learning from other people's thoughts and views on a matter.

  15. This is Katie but I am just using Tessa's account! I have learned so much in this class! I learned all about the philosophies of people from back in the day and even today. I feel like I now have a better grip on what my own philosophies are in life and what I think about certain topics. I enjoyed learning and thinking more deeply in this class. Thanks for a great class!
